CITF says no date yet for GPs to start administering Covid-19 jabs

KUALA LUMPUR – Hours after Health Minister Datuk Seri Dr Adham Baba announced that general practitioners (GP) are allowed to accept walk-ins to those aged above 60 to get Covid-19 vaccinations, the Covid-19 Immunisation Task Force (CITF) said the date has yet to be finalised.

In a statement, the task force told senior citizens without inoculation appointments to not head to any vaccination centres (PPVs) until more details regarding the initiative has been announced. 

“Referring to vaccination walk-ins for senior citizens in Selangor and Kuala Lumpur announced by the health minister, CITF would like to inform that the date for the initiative will be announced later.

“This is to finalise the initiative, such as logistics and distributing the vaccine stocks to all PPVs. Equally important is to schedule the walk-in times to avoid crowding at the PPV, especially when the numbers of infected senior citizens are increasing.”

Earlier, general practices were allowed to give walk-in Covid-19 vaccine jabs to those over the age of 60, said Dr Adham. 

This pilot programme will begin in Selangor, and gradually be expanded to other states.

“We welcome those over the age of 60 to get their walk-in vaccinations with immediate effect.

“For other states, we will update from time to time,” he said during an online press conference today.

Dr Adham also announced that more than 3,000 clinics in Selangor and Kuala Lumpur would participate in the vaccination programme.

“Presently, 700 general practitioners are aiding us in Selangor and KL.”

Each GP, he said, will be able to administer approximately 100 doses of vaccine per day, which translates to some 300,000 doses a day. – The Vibes, July 15, 2021
