KUALA LUMPUR – General practices are allowed to give walk-in Covid-19 vaccine jabs to those over the age of 60, said Health Minister Datuk Seri Dr Adham Baba.

This pilot programme will begin in Selangor, and gradually be expanded to other states.

“We welcome those over the age of 60 to get their walk-in vaccinations with immediate effect. “For other states, we will update from time to time," he said during an online press conference today.

Dr Adham also announced that more than 3,000 clinics in Selangor and Kuala Lumpur would participate in the vaccination programme.

“Presently, 700 general practitioners (GPs) are aiding us in Selangor and KL.”

Each GP, he said, will be able to administer approximately 100 doses of vaccine per day, which translates to some 300,000 doses a day.

Adham also announced that industrial vaccination centres are allowed to operate on a 24-hour basis in states including Selangor, Kuala Lumpur, and Negri Sembilan in an effort to ramp up more vaccinations within the greater Klang Valley.

Adham’s announcement comes after the country recorded high numbers of daily Covid-19 cases today, as they soared to 13,215 from over 11,000 cases yesterday.

Tan Sri Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah reported that Selangor topped at a shocking 6,120 fresh cases, followed by Negri Sembilan (1,603) and Kuala Lumpur (1,499).

Kedah saw 695 cases, Johor 599, Penang 509, Melaka 484, Sabah 370, Sarawak 363, Perak 344, Kelantan 255, and Pahang 222.

Terengganu registered 70 infections, Putrajaya 53, Labuan 26, and Perlis three.

In all, the nation has seen 880,782 coronavirus cases since the pandemic began. – The Vibes, July 15, 2021
