FORMER anti-graft commission chief Tan Sri Azam Baki has denied having any connection with the awarding of a RM178.29 million contract to a company linked to his younger brother, Datuk Nasir Baki.
Azam said he was unaware of the matter and stressed that the business affairs of his family members should not be associated with him.
"That is his business matter. So, does this mean that anyone who is connected to me will be questioned?" he said.
Azam was responding to a report by The Edge Malaysia which claimed that Integriti Padu Sdn Bhd had secured a six-year contract to develop and operate the Road Charge and Vehicle Entry Permit (RC/VEP) system at the Malaysia-Singapore border.
The contract, reportedly awarded by the Transport Ministry on May 26, was valued at RM178.29 million following a request for proposal (RFP) process launched in June last year.
Azam, who retired as MACC chief commissioner on May 12, also defended his family members, saying they should not become targets simply because of their relationship with him.
"My family is all doing well. I also have a younger sister who is a well-known ear, nose and throat (ENT) specialist in this country.
"Does this mean she will also become a subject of attention?" he said.
The remarks came amid public discussion over the reported link between the company awarded the contract and Azam’s brother. Azam maintained that he had no role or involvement in the procurement process. - July 21, 2026
