ALOR STAR – A man was killed after he lost control of his motorcycle in a bid to escape police, following a 57km chase after he punched a female officer and allegedly defaced a palace wall.

The suspect walked up to the policewoman outside the Kota Setar district police headquarters at about 5pm, before hitting her in the face.

He also threw an object believed to be a toy pistol, and fled the scene on his motorcycle.

Prior to this, the man, in his 30s, was caught on CCTV allegedly vandalising a wall at Istana Anak Bukit here at about 3pm.

Kedah police chief Datuk Kamarul Zaman Mamat in a statement today said police then launched a manhunt for the suspect.

After a 57km chase, police found him in Gurun, near Sg Petani, where officers zeroed in on him and warned him to stop.

However, the suspect continued to speed away, avoiding several traffic officers.

As he entered Bedong, he lost control, skidded and fell on the road, suffering major injuries as a result.

Police called first responders, who rushed the suspect to the hospital. However, he was pronounced dead at Sg Petani Hospital.

The body has been sent to Sultanah Bahiyah Hospital here for post-mortem.

The case is being investigated under Section 427 of the Penal Code for committing treason, Section 332 of the Penal Code for injuring a civil servant, and Section 36(1) of the Firearms Act 1960 for possession of an imitation weapon.

Police are investigating whether the suspect had any accomplice. – The Vibes, July 16, 2021
