KUDAT – A father and his teenage son who were reported missing following a fishing trip last Friday were found dead, believed to be from drowning.
The remains of Jobik Mokim, 47, and Nick Hezron, 18, were found by members of the public along the shores of Tampakan Resort here around noon yesterday.
The duo had gone fishing at Sg Karang on Friday before both were reported missing the next day.
Sabah Fire and Rescue Department public relations officer Mohd Affendy K. Ramin said family members realised that the father and son were missing after their boat was found stranded at Kg Lok Dangkaan in Pitas on Saturday.
The fishermen’s family lodged a report, and a search-and-rescue (SAR) operation was mounted by marine police and the Malaysian Maritime Enforcement Agency.
“The Fire and Rescue Department started its SAR mission around 7.51am yesterday, and conducted a full sweep along the coast and mangrove area where the boat was initially found,” said Affendy when contacted today.
“Soon after, we received a call from the public over the discovery of two dead bodies along the shores of the resort and went to the area.”
He said the father’s body was found first, followed by the son’s remains near the island.
Authorities are still investigating into the cause of death. – The Vibes, July 19, 2021
