KUALA LUMPUR – The country today recorded 12,366 Covid-19 cases, making for a total of 939,899 since the pandemic began.
Selangor takes the lion’s share with 5,524 infections, followed by Kuala Lumpur (1,580) and Negri Sembilan (970), said the Health Ministry.
Johor logged 793 cases, Kedah (701), Sabah (657), Penang (460), Sarawak (351), Melaka (309), Perak (295), Pahang (288), Terengganu (190) and Kelantan (179).
Putrajaya saw 50 infections, Labuan (17) and Perlis (2).
The ministry reported another 93 deaths, pushing up the toll to 7,241.
Of the 924 patients in intensive care, 448 require respiratory assistance.
Overall recoveries stand at 798,955 with the 7,567 registered today.
35-year-old one of Sarawak’s 2 victims
Two women aged 35 and 80 died of the coronavirus in Sarawak, which has seen a total of 447 fatalities.
The elderly victim died at Sibu Hospital.
The state Disaster Management Committee secretariat said of Sarawak’s fresh infections, Kuching recorded 170, Serian (74), Samarahan (21), Sibu and Saratok (14 each), Miri (8) and other districts (fewer than 8).
The new Jalan Jambusan 2 cluster was reported in Bau district, with 11 supermarket workers infected.
18 fresh clusters, 13 workplace-related
The national infectivity rate (R0) stands at 1.14.
Terengganu has the highest rate by state at 1.3, followed by Kedah (1.24), Sabah (1.23), Putrajaya (1.22), Penang (1.2), Johor (1.18), Negri Sembilan (1.17), Pahang (1.16), Selangor (1.15), Melaka (1.14), Kuala Lumpur and Perak (both 1.1), and Kelantan (1.09).
States with an R0 of below 1 are Sarawak (0.92), Labuan (0.77) and Perlis (0.00).
The ministry said there are 920 active clusters, including 18 identified today.
Thirteen of the fresh clusters involve worksites in Selangor, Johor, Kuala Lumpur, Kelantan, Melaka, Negri Sembilan and Terengganu, with a total of 583 infections.
Only two community clusters were identified, involving Sabah and Perak, with a cumulative 27 cases.
Two high-risk individual clusters were detected in Pahang and Johor, with a total of 162 cases.
