KUALA LUMPUR – Organisers of the #RasuahBusters campaign to counter corruption in Malaysia are cranking up their pressure and influence by generating new triggers and handles online to promote the anti-graft agenda.
Its core team leader, Datuk Hussamuddin Yaacub, said rehabilitation from a culture of corruption should be done in a holistic manner and take into account the views of every member of the coalition who are able to understand best their respective target segments.
“I am encouraged by the massive support from every spectrum of society, including the youth of Malaysia who are committed to fusing integrity into their belief system,” he said in a statement today.
“Even though our journey has just begun, I pray there will be no place for corruption to hide any more.”
The new triggers and handles are: #RakyatBenciRasuah (citizens who hate corruption), #BeliaBenciRasuah (youth hate corruption), #PendakwahBenciRasuah (preachers hate corruption), #KerajaanTanpaRasuah (government without corruption), #BisnesTanpaRasuah (businesses without corruption) and #PilihanrayaTanpaRasuah (elections without corruption).
The coalition partners will also make Malaysia Tanpa Rasuah (Malaysia without corruption) their war cry and main agenda to drive a moral and value transformation, highlighting that graft is a common enemy that cannot be simply brushed aside any longer.
The group encourages parties to come forward and work together to turn this into a national achievement by Malaysians, for Malaysians.
The #RasuahBusters movement started earlier this year as a fledgling cause. Its organisers said it now has support from 200 organisations across the country, among them media companies and civil society groups like Bersih 2.0 and Reset Malaysia.
They have been gathering regularly to discuss, debate and create strategies to coordinate efforts against corruption, while also promoting good governance and integrity among institutions and the people, said the statement.
Religious and cultural organisations, such as the World Hindu Federation, Majlis Perundingan Melayu and Council of Churches of Malaysia, have also joined the coalition.
The group has been united under the Malaysia Tanpa Rasuah banner, calling corruption a “moral pandemic” that has crippled the country and must be contained.
