KUALA LUMPUR – The Parliamentary Select Committee (PSC) on Health, Science and Innovation meet started at 9.30am today, beginning with a briefing by Health Director-General Tan Sri Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah.
This is the first PSC meeting, which is held in Parliament, since the emergency proclamation in January.
Committee chairman Dr Kelvin Yii, who is also Bandar Kuching MP, said senior officers from the Science, Technology and Innovation Ministry (Mosti) will also be briefing the committee.
“We will be having Dr Noor Hisham and senior officers from Mosti to update us on the current approach on (the) Covid-19 (situation).
“I will be in Kuala Lumpur until the end of the parliamentary session. I will not be flying back and forth to reduce the risk of me bringing back the virus from the current hotspot and risk the lives of fellow Sarawakians,” he said in a Facebook post yesterday.
Yii was quoted by Malaysiakini as saying that Dr Noor Hisham will be asked on several government decisions, while Mosti officers are expected to provide information on the National Covid-19 Immunisation Programme.
“We will give praise and make recommendations if there are gaps that need to be addressed,” he was quoted as saying.
The committee will also seek a briefing on near- and long-term plans and strategies taken by the government, including action after herd immunity is achieved, he added. – The Vibes, July 23, 2021
