KUALA LUMPUR – The Parliamentary Select Committee (PSC) on Health, Science and Innovation has arranged to meet with Health Director-General Tan Sri Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah and the Health Ministry at least once a month, said its chairman Dr Kelvin Yii.

In a Facebook post after meeting Dr Noor Hisham this morning, the Bandar Kuching MP said the monthly meet is to allow the PSC to commend and recommend on the government’s approach towards the Covid-19 pandemic.

“We had a meeting to discuss two main issues, that is, the government’s approach to Covid-19 and the National Covid-19 Immunisation Programme.

“We had a discussion to get feedback and clarification by the DG on certain decisions and direction by the government when it comes to Covid-19.

“We had the opportunity to get a report from Dr Noor Hisham on our current Covid-19 situation as well as the government’s future plans to handle the current pandemic,” he said.

In addition, he said the committee also gave its feedback on how the focus of the government should be on its future strategies, including shifting focus away from absolute numbers and focusing on living with Covid-19.

He said that the PSC has set their next meeting for this coming Tuesday, where they have extended an official invitation to the Health and Sciences Covid-19 Advisory Group of Experts led by Tan Sri Dr Abu Bakar Suleiman.

“We will then collect input, formulate a report in the near future, and table it for public viewing in the spirit of transparency,” he added.
