KLANG – Contract doctors at Tengku Ampuan Rahimah Hospital here could be slapped with disciplinary action for participating in the #HartalDoktorKontrak strike yesterday.
Hospital director Dr Zulkarnain Mohd Rawi told Kosmo Online that involved medical personnel will be issued with show-cause letters, as they are tied to the Hippocratic Oath.
“Doctors have to sacrifice themselves for the sake of their patients, not the other way around. So, doctors help people in need without taking into account self-interests.”
He said contract doctors should not have been influenced to join the walkout after the government extended their contracts.
“We don’t work for glamour. The work of a doctor is noble; don’t throw it away until it is looked down by society. A lot of medical knowledge is gained when working in the public sector, which receives a variety of cases.”
More than 20 HTAR medical personnel joined the strike for about 15 minutes yesterday.
They were joined by dozens of contract doctors across the country, despite heavy police presence at some hospitals.
In a tweet by @HartalDoktorKontrak, Kangar police chief Wari Kiew was quoted as saying that they received a report on the walkout in Block B of Tuanku Fauziah Hospital in Perlis.
However, he said no investigation will be carried out as the participants did not break the law. – The Vibes, July 27, 2021
