KOTA KINABALU – An entertainment outlet owner and 32 others were fined a total of RM140,000 for flouting standard operating procedures here last night.
The pub owner was slapped with a RM25,000 compound, while the outlet’s four workers each received a RM5,000 fine.
The other 12 men and 16 women, who were in the premises during the raid at 9pm, each received a RM5,000 fine.
The pub owner was also compounded for violating his licence, which states that the premises is registered as a Class 2 restaurant, instead of an entertainment outlet.
Kota Kinabalu police chief Mohd Zaidi Abdullah in a statement said the offenders were caught not observing social distancing and held a prohibited activity against the health director-general’s directive.
All the individuals were fined in an Op Bersepadu Covid-19 raid – a joint enforcement involving police, health authorities and Kota Kinabalu City Hall personnel.
“During inspection of the premises, music was heard loudly playing and customers enjoying themselves while drinking alcohol,” said Zaidi.
“The bar was also found operating under the name Infinity Sdn Bhd – a Class 2 restaurant. It was found to have violated the terms of its licence by instead running an entertainment outlet.
“Kota Kinabalu City Hall fined the restaurant.” – The Vibes, July 28, 2021
