KUALA LUMPUR – Health Minister Datuk Seri Dr Adham Baba (Tenggara-BN) has joined Law Minister Datuk Seri Takiyuddin Hassan (Kota Baru-PAS) in possibly being referred to Parliament’s Rights and Privileges Committee.

Pakatan Harapan’s Lembah Pantai MP Fahmi Fadzil told a press conference in the Parliament building today that he filed a motion against Dr Adham yesterday for allegedly misleading the House over his statement on doctors who participated in Monday’s #HartalDoktorKontrak walkout.

“I filed the motion yesterday at 11.45am, and it is regarding the Tenggara MP’s statement when he answered questions pertaining to #HartalDoktorKontrak on July 27.

“He said no action will be taken against them, and the doctors have the right to do so (participate in the protest).

“However, this contradicts media reports that doctors, nurses and medical officers working at MAEPS were questioned until 3.45am on July 28,” said Fahmi, referring to the Covid-19 treatment centre at the Malaysia Agro Exposition Park Serdang.

He said the statement by Dr Adham should be conveyed to the home and communications ministers, as pressmen covering the demonstration were summoned by police for questioning.

“This goes against what was said (by Dr Adham) in the Dewan Rakyat.

“This is a matter of concern as members of the press have also been called in to facilitate investigations. The communications and multimedia minister has to explain this issue.

“I hope our frontliners are not being investigated, and for all investigations to end immediately.”

Fahmi said he will refer the matter to Dewan Rakyat Speaker Datuk Azhar Azizan Harun by Monday at the latest.

“This is an important issue, but I do not see any effort from the Health or Home Ministry to explain the matter.

“We hope the speaker will give us an answer. This issue needs to be debated and decided in the Dewan Rakyat. There needs to be an answer.”

Yesterday, two opposition parliamentarians filed a motion to refer Takiyuddin to the Rights and Privileges Committee for confusing the House, following his shock announcement on Monday that the government has revoked all emergency ordinances effective July 21. – The Vibes, July 29, 2021
