KUALA LUMPUR – The government will be implementing enhanced movement control order (EMCO) at Anjung Teduh located at Felda Sahabat, Lahad Datu, Sabah from October 24 to November 6.
Senior Minister (Security Cluster) Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob said the EMCO, aimed at containing the spread of Covid-19, will involve 554 units of houses and 4,629 residents.
"All residents are required to comply with the stipulated standard operating procedures (SOP) and are not allowed to go in and out of the area except in emergency cases such as death or accidents.
“The sundry shops in the village are allowed to operate from 6am to 6pm,” he told a press conference on the development of the Recovery Movement Control Order (RMCO) today.
He said the Health Ministry is also conducting targeted screening on residents in the area.
He said the government carried out EMCO in five prisons in the northern zone and four prisons in Selangor zone as well as prison quarters from today until November 4 after the increase of Covid-19 cases in the areas.
The EMCO in the northern zone involved Perlis Correctional Centre, Sungai Petani Prison, Taiping Prison, Kamunting Correctional Centre and Tapah Prison while Selangor zone involved Sungai Buloh Remand Prison, Kajang Prison, Kajang Women’s Prison and the Puncak Alam Correctional Centre.
"Movements in and out of these areas including visits by families of inmates are not allowed, while prison staff movement would be determined based on the SOP issued by the Prisons Department,” he said.
Ismail Sabri said the EMCO at six localities in Semporna, namely Kampung Bangau-Bangau, Kampung Panji, Kampung Air, Kampung Selamat, Kampung Simunul, Kampung Pinggir Bakau and one locality in Kunak at Kampung Pangkalan which is set to end on October 24 has been extended to November 6.
He said the extension was put in place after risk evaluation conducted by MOH found high numbers of Covid-19 cases in the areas and to continue screenings by MOH.
In another development, Ismail Sabri said 27 illegal immigrants were arrested while nine vehicles were seized via Op Benteng yesterday.
Police also detained 636 individuals for violating RMCO and from the total, 595 individuals were issued compounds, 38 remanded and three released on bail, he said. – Bernama, October 22, 2020
