PUTRAJAYA – Eleven Covid-19 cases were detected in Parliament yesterday, said Health Director-General Tan Sri Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah.
In a statement today, he said of the total, 10 cases were detected via RTK Ag saliva-based testing, and the other through an RT-PCR test.
He said the Health Ministry was yesterday informed of two infections in Parliament, with the first case involving a staffer who was present on the premises from Monday to Wednesday, and who underwent an RT-PCR test on his own after experiencing cough and flu.
The second case was detected using the RTK Ag test in the Parliament building yesterday morning, after the individual concerned experienced cough.
“Investigations found that these two cases are not connected with any of the positive cases detected during the screening of Parliament personnel conducted three days before the special sitting began,” said Dr Noor Hisham, adding that the two patients tested negative for the virus before starting their parliamentary duties.
The Dewan Rakyat’s five-day special sitting began on Monday, and will end next Monday.
Following the two cases, said Dr Noor Hisham, 1,183 individuals underwent Covid-19 screening using the RTK Ag test in Parliament yesterday.
He advised those who will attend the proceedings next week to undergo testing.
