KUALA LUMPUR – China’s ambassador to Malaysia Ouyang Yujing expressed his appreciation and gratitude to the government for the Covid-19 immunisation programme held for Chinese nationals in the country.
Ouyang said he regarded the initiative as a result of solid friendship between China and Malaysia.
“Since the outbreak of Covid-19, China and Malaysia have helped each other to fight the pandemic. We will defeat the pandemic together,” he told reporters after visiting the drive.
Earlier, Ouyang joined Senior Minister Datuk Seri Hishammuddin Hussein and National Covid-19 Immunisation Programme Coordinating Minister Khairy Jamaluddin to visit Chinese nationals getting their shots at the Golden Horses Health Sanctuary vaccination centre (PPV) here today.
Some 500 Chinese expatriates working in the Klang Valley received their shots under the initiative.
Khairy told reporters that the remaining Chinese nationals will be vaccinated at PPVs nationwide by next week.
“I am told that the number of Chinese nationals in Malaysia is more or less 30,000.”
He thanked the Chinese government not just for its contribution, but also its continuous support in the procurement process of coronavirus vaccines made in China.
“Although Malaysia buys from Chinese pharmaceutical companies, like Sinovac and CanSino, the approval has been facilitated by the Chinese government.
“This is one reason why Malaysia can speed up its vaccination drive – due to the support we receive from the Chinese government.
“So far, 12 million (vaccine doses) have already been delivered. For the single dose CanSino vaccine from China, the first shipment is in the first week of August.”
Wisma Putra has already announced that Malaysia will soon receive vaccine contribution from the United Kingdom, he added.
“We are working with the British High Commission in Kuala Lumpur to finalise the date of delivery for some 400,000 doses of AstraZeneca.” – Bernama, July 31, 2021
