MORE than 300 companies from Shanghai will take part in a trade fair in Kuala Lumpur next month, with organisers looking to expand commercial links between Chinese businesses and Malaysian firms.
The 26th Shanghai Fair Trade Show – Malaysia will be held at the Malaysia International Trade and Exhibition Centre (MITEC) on Nov 16 and 17, featuring about 500 exhibitors across 12,000 square metres of exhibition space.
Organised by RCG International Convention & Exhibition Co Ltd, the event will bring together Shanghai companies, industry associations and institutions, with exhibitors representing manufacturing, healthcare, consumer goods and trade services.
Minhang District in Shanghai will be the guest of honour, showcasing its industrial strengths and exploring potential partnerships with Malaysian businesses.
Organisers are targeting more than 300 pre-arranged business-matching meetings between Malaysian trade participants and Shanghai exhibitors.
More than 100 meetings have been confirmed, with discussions expected to cover sourcing, distribution and potential business partnerships.
The programme will include investment seminars, a signing ceremony and China-Malaysia business exchanges focusing on artificial intelligence and new energy, AI and healthcare, as well as green chemicals and new materials.
An international pavilion will also make its debut at the fair, bringing Malaysian institutions and businesses together with Shanghai exhibitors in a space spanning nearly 150 square metres.
More than half of the exhibitors have China’s Specialised, Refined, Distinctive and Innovative (SRDI) designation, which recognises small and medium-sized enterprises with specialised expertise and a focus on niche markets.
The fair will also feature cultural events, including a fashion show, an art tour, a coffee exchange and a showcase pairing Shanghai cuisine with Nyonya delicacies.
A charity event and a showcase of Shanghai brands are also planned.
Since 2012, the Shanghai Fair has toured nearly 20 countries across Asia and Europe to promote products, brands and services from the Chinese city.
Kuala Lumpur hosted two editions in 2025, with a medical special session in May followed by the full trade show in November.
Organisers said this year’s edition would be the largest to date in terms of exhibitor participation, exhibition space and programme sessions.
Shanghai Services Federation vice-president Fu Wengang said the organisers hoped to develop the fair into a long-term platform for cooperation between Shanghai and Malaysia through trade, cultural exchange and public welfare.
