KUALA LUMPUR – Malaysia recorded 19,819 new Covid-19 cases today, its highest daily count yet.
The nationwide tally now stands at 1,183,110 cases.
Selangor is still in the lead with 8,377 fresh infections, followed by Kuala Lumpur (2,467), Kedah (1,371), Johor (1,162) and Kelantan (1,003).
States that recorded fewer than 1,000 cases are Sabah (949), Penang (867), Negri Sembilan (800), Perak (662), Pahang (558), Sarawak (552), Melaka (508) and Terengganu (481).
Putrajaya, Perlis and Labuan recorded 46, 11 and five infections, respectively.
The nation also mourned its highest-yet daily deaths with 257, taking the toll to 9,855.
A total of 12,704 patients recovered, while 1,069 are in intensive care, of which 553 require breathing aid.
The Health Ministry reported that the nation’s infectivity rate stands at 1.07.
Kelantan recorded the highest rate in the country at 1.31, followed by Terengganu (1.27), Perak (1.24), Penang (1.17), Sabah (1.17), Kedah (1.16), Pahang (1.14), Johor (1.14), Kuala Lumpur (1.12), Putrajaya (1.11), Melaka (1.08), Sarawak (1.08) and Selangor (1.06).
Negri Sembilan recorded a rate less than one at 0.92, while Perlis and Labuan each recorded zero.
As for clusters, the ministry said 1,161 remain active, including 35 new ones today.
Of the new clusters, 20 involve the community, 14 involve worksites and one, religious activity.
The new community clusters in Perak, Selangor, Kelantan, Terengganu, Sabah and Sarawak recorded 636 cases cumulatively, while the new worksite clusters in Perak, Selangor, Kuala Lumpur, Kelantan, Melaka and Johor recorded 737 cases in total.
