KOTA BARU – PAS deputy president Datuk Seri Tuan Ibrahim Tuan Man has hinted that a general election is approaching, saying that it is pointless to have a new prime minister with just a few months to go.
He said parties that want to submit a no-confidence motion can do so during the Dewan Rakyat sitting next month.
Efforts to address the pandemic should be prioritised, not the current political crisis, he added.
Tuan Ibrahim said PAS, which supports Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin’s leadership, is of the view that all politicians should focus on problems posed by the pandemic.
The environment and water minister told this to Bernama after visiting a vaccination centre at the Wadi Sofia Schools here today.
Muhyiddin had yesterday said the Agong has consented to his proposal to seek a vote of confidence to prove that he has majority support in a Parliament session next month.
On Umno’s move to withdraw support for the Perikatan Nasional government, Tuan Ibrahim said PAS is saddened by the matter.
“Previously, Umno got together with us to form the PN government, and we set a target that this government will last until Parliament is dissolved.
“However, PAS respects Umno’s stand,” he said, adding that the PN government is the best one at this point in time.
Umno president Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi had on Tuesday reiterated the stand of the Supreme Council to withdraw support for Muhyiddin and his PN government. – The Vibes, August 5, 2021
