KUALA LUMPUR – Umno’s Datuk Seri Mohamed Nazri Abdul Aziz said he will not answer a party letter demanding his stance on Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin and the government.

The Padang Rengas MP confirmed that he has received a letter from Umno secretary-general Datuk Seri Ahmad Maslan via WhatsApp today, according to Astro Awani.

However, Nazri said it is unnecessary for him to provide a reply on the matter.

“I will not answer that letter because I have not done anything wrong,” he was quoted as saying this evening.

“The one who should be given a show-cause letter is Umno president Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi as he clearly went against the decision of the Umno general assembly.”

Nazri said Zahid had violated the party’s stance via his infamous alleged telephone call with opposition leader Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim in March.

“I have also stated that Zahid needs to meet all Umno MPs to explain what he has done, but until now, he has not done so.”

As a Barisan Nasional parliamentarian, Nazri said he will abide by the decision made by the BN supreme council.

“I am a BN parliamentarian, if the BN supreme council instructs me to withdraw support (for the government), I will withdraw my support.”

Earlier this evening, news portal Suara TV quoted Ahmad as saying that all Umno MPs have been asked to provide written responses on their stance on Muhyiddin.

Ahmad said Umno has given its lawmakers until this Saturday to respond to the request.

However, he reminded the MPs to toe the party line in withdrawing support for Muhyiddin and his Perikatan Nasional government, as announced by Zahid on August 3.

The Pontian MP said the directive is in line with Clauses 20.9(b) and 20.9(d) of the party constitution. – The Vibes, August 5, 2021
