KOTA MARUDU – Parti Bersatu Sabah has reiterated its support for beleaguered Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin.
Its president and sole MP Datuk Seri Maximus Ongkili last night said the party will remain firmly behind Muhyiddin and Sabah Chief Minister Datuk Seri Hajiji Mohd Noor as the fight against Covid-19 remains the top priority.
The ongoing political turmoil was instigated by opposition leaders who put their political interests ahead of the rakyat’s well-being amid the pandemic, said the Kota Marudu lawmaker after attending a vaccination outreach programme at the Kg Marak Parak jab site here.
“The prime minister has said a motion of confidence will be tabled to determine his legitimacy during the next parliamentary sitting that begins on September 6, and we will all vote.
“The whole cabinet is behind him. We are confident that the prime minister continues to enjoy majority support.”
The minister in the Prime Minister’s Department in charge of Sabah and Sarawak affairs said the opposition purposely caused a stir in the recent special Dewan Rakyat sitting to disrupt efforts to contain the coronavirus.
It is obvious that putting Covid-19 to rest is secondary to the opposition. They are just thirsty for power and want to create chaos.
“They were not only disrupting the parliamentary sitting, but also hampering the government’s efforts to combat this deadly virus.”
He said Putrajaya must function well in these testing times, and that the public is getting fed up with the opposition’s political tricks.
Pensiangan MP Datuk Arthur Joseph Kurup, Parti Bersatu Rakyat Sabah’s only parliamentarian, also voiced support for Muhyiddin, saying his party is part of the federal Perikatan Nasional and state Gabungan Rakyat Sabah governments.
“We are working very hard to try and solve the problem faced by the people now. We need to prioritise the economy and deal with Covid-19 in Sabah.” – The Vibes, August 7, 2021
