[UPDATED] Covid-19 jab walk-ins available nationwide soon for special groups

PUTRAJAYA – The walk-in vaccination initiative that is being implemented in the Klang Valley will be expanded to public vaccination centres nationwide for special groups soon, said the Covid-19 Immunisation Task Force (CITF).

The CITF said the groups targeted are the elderly, people with disabilities, individuals with comorbidities aged 18 and above, those who missed their second dose appointments, as well as teachers, members of the implementing group and contract support staff at educational institutions of the Education Ministry.

It said those who missed their second dose injection can visit any PPV near their homes and if the PPV does not offer a vaccine of the same type as their first dose, they will be referred to another PPV.

“Details of the implementation of walk-in vaccinations will be announced by state CITFs along with the respective state Health Departments. This includes vaccination scheduling and daily walk-in vaccination quotas at PPVs for each state,” it said in a statement here today.

The CITF said the daily quotas for walk-ins depend on vaccine supply at each PPV, and for those who fail to get vaccinated on a particular day at a PPV, their names will be prioritised for vaccination the next day.

The task force said walk-in initiatives for senior citizens have commenced in Perak, Kedah, Penang, Sabah, Melaka, and Sarawak, with Kelantan requiring pre-booking.

It said for Klang Valley residents who do not belong to any of the above categories but want to walk in for their first doses because they have not gotten an appointment, they need to visit previously listed PPVs.

The CITF said walk-ins at PPVs that had been listed earlier are now allowed according to the operating hours of the respective PPVs – no longer from 2pm onwards.

For pregnant women, the CITF said this group is not encouraged to walk-in. They will instead will be given an appointment through MySejahtera based on their expected dates of delivery, at a suitable PPV.

The CITF also called on the public to adhere to standard operating procedures and cooperate with PPV staff to prevent the spread of Covid-19 and ensure a smooth vaccination process and safety at the centres. – Bernama, August 7, 2021
