KUALA LUMPUR – #Lawan protest organisers are taking to the streets on August 21 if Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin fails to resign soonest.

In a statement today, Sekretariat Solidariti Rakyat is extending an invite to all Malaysians, especially the youth, to be prepared to stage a mass protest.

The group said Muhyiddin has to step down for failing to steer the government and stabilise the country’s political crisis, adding that the daily Covid-19 caseload exceeded 20,000 yesterday, with the death toll now past the 10,000 mark.

“Leaders of a failed government must know when to go and give space to others to steer the country. Sudahlah (it’s enough). We don’t need two-faced leaders, especially those who disrespect Parliament and have double standards.

“The prime minister’s reluctance to act has caused the people to suffer and lose their jobs but groups that support him can easily be appointed ministerial advisers or ministerial ambassadors.

“The best language is the language of the streets with empowered people, to deny leaders of power. We are in solidarity with the people and the frontliners who are working hard to survive a failed government.”

Just a week ago, #Lawan protesters took to the streets near Dataran Merdeka in an effort to demand for Muhyiddin’s resignation, among others.

While the protest did not turn violent, organisers and some protesters have been hauled up by the police for questioning. – The Vibes, August 7, 2021
