KOTA KINABALU – Sabah Umno Youth Chief Abdul Aziz Julkarnain said he supports Sabah Umno’s stance to continue working with Perikatan Nasional (PN) under the umbrella Gabungan Rakyat Sabah (GRS) ruling government.
“While it is important to show Sabahans and party grassroots that Sabah Umno respects the decision of the party’s highest leader, the decision has to be in line with the recipe and mould of the state’s politics as guide.
“It is a statement that is responsible, balanced and emphasises Sabah Umno’s autonomy,” he said in a statement today.
Aziz said he is confident and believes that the GRS government, under the leadership of Datuk Seri Hajiji Mohd Noor (Sabah Bersatu chairman) and Datuk Seri Bung Moktar Radin (Sabah Umno chief), could elevate the state higher through the spirit of Sabah Maju Jaya.
Yesterday, before the Sabah Umno statement was released at 11pm, it was reported that Aziz had resigned from his position as Boustead Plantation Bhd independent and non-executive director to pursue other interests.
Similarly, Deputy Prime Minister and Umno vice-president Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob, along with numerous Barisan Nasional (BN) MPs yesterday, voiced their support for Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin up till the vote of confidence in Parliament this September.
He claimed that 31 BN lawmakers backed the Pagoh MP, but Tg Karang MP Tan Sri Noh Omar issued a separate statement denying that he supports Muhyiddin.
Another blow to the PN administration happened when Parit Sulong MP Datuk Seri Noraini Ahmad joined the ranks of Lenggong’s Datuk Seri Shamsul Anuar Nasarah by resigning from her position as higher education minister. – The Vibes, August 7, 2021
