GEORGE TOWN – More than 3,000 meals have been distributed to the needy in the Batu Maung constituency, said assemblyman Datuk Abdul Halim Hussain.

The Penang Trade, Industry and Entrepreneurial Development Committee chairman told The Vibes that the list of names of those in need of aid has been compiled by his service centre.

“We (seven staff and 12 volunteers) continue to distribute meals to the affected families, and we will continue to identify those in need of help.

“Corporate companies, through their corporate social responsibility (CSR) programmes, have also assist us to distribute foodstuffs to the families,” he said, after distributing 100 food baskets from the Federal Agriculture Marketing Authority (Fama) to the needy at his service centre in Taman Prestij, Bayan Lepas.

Fama’s CSR programme is aimed at delivering agricultural products, including fruits and vegetables to the poor.

Halim said he has also organised an online counselling programme to help people overcome stress due to financial difficulties during the pandemic.

“The centre also provides consultation and counselling to people falling prey to loan sharks or Ah Longs.

“We have rescued two families from such problems and have helped victims lodge police reports.” – The Vibes, August 9, 2021
