KUALA LUMPUR – A total of 88 Covid-19 cases have been detected following the special sitting in Parliament, including three new ones, said Health Director-General Tan Sri Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah.

Dr Noor Hisham in a statement yesterday said 85 cases are related to the meeting held from July 26 to 29, of which 17 involve close contacts and individuals who attended the sitting.

The three fresh infections are also related to the Dewan Rakyat session, bringing the total number of cases detected during the sitting to 20 cases as of yesterday, he added.

“The three new cases were reported on August 7, and had an RT-PCR (reverse transcription polymerase chain reaction) cycle threshold value of 19.15 to 22.27 (high infectivity rate).

“The Institute for Medical Research is conducting whole genomic sequencing and awaiting the final results. All of them have mild symptoms and have been fully vaccinated.”

Dr Noor Hisham said district health offices are identifying close contacts.

He said confirmed-positive individuals have taken precautionary measures by undergoing self-quarantine after returning from the parliamentary sitting.

The cases were detected from RT-PCR tests, with 56 infections identified from screening before the parliamentary session started, four found from close contacts, and eight from screening carried out before the sitting.

Dr Noor Hisham advised individuals who attended the special sitting in Parliament to continue to monitor their health using the MySejahtera app, and seek immediate treatment and undergo Covid-19 screening if they experience symptoms. – Bernama, August 9, 2021
