KUALA LUMPUR – Following the footsteps of fellow Umno mates, Jerantut MP Datuk Ahmad Nazlan Idris has reiterated his stand to pull support for Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin and his Perikatan Nasional government.
In a video on Umno Online last night, Nazlan denied making a turnabout on his decision to support party president Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi.
“I signed a declaration letter to the Yang di-Pertuan Agong on July 30, and I will keep my word.
“I am sticking to the Umno Supreme Council resolution made on July 7 to pull support for the prime minister and his government. I am also denying claims that I have changed my stand.”
Nazlan was among the 11 Umno MPs who joined Zahid on August 3, when the president announced the decision to withdraw support for Muhyiddin.
So far, Umno’s Tanjong Karang MP Tan Sri Noh Omar, Baling MP Datuk Seri Abdul Azeez Abdul Rahim and Parit MP Datuk Mohd Nizar Zakaria had to publicly reiterate their stand against Muhyiddin after talks of a turnabout.
Cameron Highlands MP Ramli Mohd Nor also said he stands with the party and Supreme Council.
“This is to confirm my stand to uphold the Supreme Council’s decision to pull support for the prime minister,” he stated in a video posted on Umno’s Facebook page last night.
However, Rembau MP Khairy Jamaluddin had yesterday said he will not resign from his cabinet post, and will instead focus on the national immunisation programme.
He said his trust in Zahid has eroded following the latter’s actions of late and apparent lack of direction.
Last Friday, Umno vice-president Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob, who is also Bera MP, said 31 Barisan Nasional lawmakers will remain in government until Muhyiddin’s confidence vote is tabled next month.
Since then, Lenggong MP Datuk Seri Shamsul Anuar Nasarah and Parit Sulong MP Datuk Seri Noraini Ahmad have resigned from their cabinet posts. – The Vibes, August 9, 2021
