IPOH – A preliminary investigation by the Perak Health Department has found that the fire that broke out in an isolation room at Slim River Hospital last night was not caused by an oxygen tank as reported.
State health director Datuk Dr Ding Lay Ming in a statement today said the probe into the 7.20pm incident is being carried out by the hospital and Fire and Rescue Department.
“The incident involved a male patient in the room.
“Nurses and healthcare assistants on duty immediately evacuated the patient.”
She said the victim, in his 40s, sustained 9% burns on the hands, and is now in stable condition.
It was reported that the flames were extinguished by hospital staff before firefighters arrived, and that 5% of the isolation room was damaged. – Bernama, August 11, 2021
