GEORGE TOWN – Police busted a drug trafficking syndicate masterminded by two foreigners and seized RM671,096.40 worth of syabu on Sunday.
Penang deputy police chief Datuk Fisol Salleh said the joint raid with the Bukit Aman Narcotics Criminal Investigation Department saw a male foreigner detained at a house in Bukit Tengah, Seberang Perai Tengah, with drugs and drug processing equipment also found.
“During the first raid in Bukit Tengah, we found 18.58kg of syabu, 12g of Erimin 5 pills, 50 bullets, 56 litres of chemical liquid, and drug processing equipment.
“The 56-year-old foreigner man who was arrested also does not have a valid permit and is believed to have lived in the country for more than 10 years,” he told a press conference at the Penang police headquarters here today.
Following the first raid, Fisol said police then conducted a second raid at a condominium unit in Gelugor, arresting a 31-year-old foreign woman and seizing 45.4g of syabu.
He said as a result of the two raids, the police continued their efforts and arrested 10 more individuals, aged between 27 to 65 years old, across Selangor.
“We believe this syndicate obtains the supply of drugs from the Klang Valley and distributes them in Penang and neighbouring countries.
“They are believed to have been active since August last year, and drug trafficking is suspected to be done via land and sea.”
Both suspects in Penang have been remanded until August 15, with the case being investigated under Section 39(B) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952, Section 8(a) of the Arms Act 1960 and Section 15(1)(c) of the Immigration Act 1959. – The Vibes, August 12, 2021
