GEORGE TOWN – Residents from Kampung Chetty, Batu Ferringhi have moved into their new units in Ceria Residensi, a low-medium cost (LMC) flat built where their village once located.

Penang Chief Minister Chow Kon Yeow today said that the 28-storey-high flat with 380 LMC units was developed by Orientside Development Sdn Bhd on the site where the 30-acre (12.14 hectares) village once stood.

He said that out of the 380 units, 280 of them would house the Kampung Chetty residents as compensation for the development project.

“While the remaining units will be offered by the state government to those who have applied for such housing in the Timur Laut district.

“Penang government is committed to provide quality and comfortable homes to the people in the state,” he said in his speech for the key and offer letter handover ceremony here today.

Also attending the event were state Housing, Local Government and Town and Country Planning Committee chairman Jagdeep Singh Deo, Tanjung Bungah assemblyman Zairil Khir Johari and Bukit Bendera assemblyman Wong Hon Wai.

In July 2014, the developer had agreed to allocate the 350 families in Kampung Chetty an LMC unit each according to the state government’s “one-to-one” policy to make way for the housing development project. – Bernama, October 24, 2020
