KUALA LUMPUR – Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin is taking heed of the Johor sultan’s advice for state assemblymen to focus on combating Covid-19 instead of politicking to serve their own interest.
The prime minister said he will ensure that Sultan Ibrahim Sultan Iskandar’s advice is given priority, with appropriate action taken to address Covid-19 and the economic recovery of Johor and the country.
“His Highness’ guidance and advice will be a guide for me to carry out my responsibilities as an elected representative,” Muhyiddin said today in a Facebook post in which he thanked the sultan for granting him an audience today after the opening of the state assembly sitting in Iskandar Puteri.
Muhyiddin also acknowledged the sultan’s role in officiating the session that took place under strict standard operating procedures.
“Among others, His Majesty, in his statement, raised concerns over the increase in Covid-19 cases due to the spread of new variants that are more dangerous and can be easily spread to others,” Muhyiddin said.
“His Majesty also ordered the speaker to immediately adjourn the conference if a health assessment finds that there is a risk or threat from this pandemic.”
Earlier, Sultan Ibrahim had granted Muhyiddin an audience at Istana Pasir Pelangi.
“I invited him (Muhyiddin) for a luncheon during which he also briefed me about the country’s current situation and development,” the ruler said in a Facebook post.
Earlier in his speech at the state assembly sitting, Sultan Ibrahim had warned the reps that he will not entertain any political shenanigans from them.
He stressed that he will not hesitate to dissolve the state assembly if he feels there are efforts to overthrow the government.
“I advise all assemblymen to use this sitting to discuss action plans to help the people and develop the state economy.
“There is no need to debate or bring irrelevant motions. Do not be selfish. All of you must put the rakyat first; they are suffering, some are hungry, have lost their jobs and there are also some who are battling Covid-19.
“This is not the time to bicker but time for unity and cooperation. Don’t ask others what is being done to help the people, but look at yourself in the mirror,” Sultan Ibrahim said. – The Vibes, August 12, 2021
