KOTA KINABALU – The inter-district travel ban in Sabah will stay due to the rising infections in Sabah, said Chief Minister Datuk Seri Hajiji Mohd Noor, despite the recent relaxation of standard operating procedures (SOPs) under Phase 2 of the National Recovery Plan (NRP).
Hajiji said the number of infections continue to rise despite enhanced lockdowns in many localities.
“Roadblocks will continue to be mounted. People must adhere to the SOPs,” he said, today.
On Sunday, Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin said inter-district travel will be allowed for those who had been fully vaccinated under Phase 2 of the NRP.
However, emergency cases, jab appointments, essential services and workers with company supporting letters would be exempted under the current federal SOPs.
Police permits are still required for emergency cases, married couples travelling inter-district and those wishing to be reunited with their children who are under 18-years-old.
Hajiji said the state is in the midst of acquiring more vaccines, adding that the state will be getting 200,000 doses of the single-dose CanSino vaccine next week.
He said the minister in charge of the Covid-19 immunisation programme Khairy Jamaluddin has assured that Sabah would be given priority on the supply.
To date, 1,227,628 or 44.5% of the state’s population above 18-years-old have received the first dose of vaccines.
Hajiji also visited the Dewan Tun Mustapha vaccination centre where he met with the frontliners and observed the vaccination process. – The Vibes, August 11, 2021
