KUALA LUMPUR – Another five Covid-19 cases linked to the special Dewan Rakyat sitting at end-July have been detected, bringing the total to 30, said Health Director-General Tan Sri Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah today.

Of the 30 cases, two are MPs, aides and government officials (9 each), family members (7), contractors (2) and Parliament staffer (1).

The five fresh infections were recorded on August 13, and involve a family. The index case is an individual who attended the parliamentary proceeding.

Of the infections, three have a RT-PCR cycle threshold (CT) value of between 16.98 and 22.76 (high infectivity rate), while two have a CT value of 28.98 to 33.98. All are fully vaccinated.

Currently, the five individuals are exhibiting mild symptoms and observing quarantine at their respective residences.

In view of this, Dr Noor Hisham said more stringent measures must be taken before Parliament sits again.

Those attending the proceeding must be fully vaccinated; screened for Covid-19 before and during the parliamentary session, and 10 days after; update the self-assessment form on MySejahtera; and, scan QR codes of localities or areas frequently visited or with groups of people.

In addition, more QR codes will be placed at areas used for gatherings; ventilation will be improved; disinfection and sanitisation done at least twice a day, or more in heavy traffic areas; hand sanitisers will be placed in strategic locations; and, the number of people in enclosed areas, such as café, surau and toilets, will be limited.
