KUALA LUMPUR – Two former prime ministers may face off in court after Datuk Seri Najib Razak threatened to sue Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin over an alleged defamatory comment.
The Pekan MP, in a Facebook post today, reminded the current caretaker prime minister of a challenge – where he dared Muhyiddin to lodge a report after the latter claimed that “kleptocrats” are trying to meddle in ongoing criminal trials.
Muhyiddin has not lodged any report nor presented any proof that the “kleptocrats” to which he is referring attempted to influence legal proceedings, he added.
“That is why my lawyer will initiate a defamation suit and request the court to take action against Muhyiddin and Bersatu information chief Wan Saiful Wan Jan.”

While Muhyiddin had claimed that he was forced to resign today as there are power-hungry individuals vying for his post, Najib pointed out that the Pagoh MP was willing to backstab former prime minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad after Bersatu lost several by-elections to Barisan Nasional.
On another assertion that Muhyiddin was sacked as deputy prime minister for speaking out against the 1Malaysia Development Bhd scandal in 2015, Najib said his No. 2 was dismissed for conspiring with Dr Mahathir to bring forth his downfall.
In his post, the Umno man also shared a copy of the police report, which was filed by a Mohd Raqib Hassan from Perak.
The report concerns the Bersatu man’s claim that there were individuals pressuring him to release them from ongoing criminal trials – suggesting a violation of separation of powers and that the judiciary can be bought.
Today, Muhyiddin and his Perikatan Nasional government have officially resigned. His decision to step down comes after his attempt to shore up bipartisan support from the opposition were rejected. – The Vibes, August 16, 2021
