KUALA LUMPUR – PAS has again come to the defence of Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin after his resignation as prime minister yesterday, offering support in the good and bad of times.
PAS president Datuk Seri Abdul Hadi Awang reiterated his support in a short statement yesterday, saying he is committed to “being together in the good and bad times”.
He added that the party is supportive of recovery efforts for the nation and “strengthening the unity among us”.
In a phone conversation with Muhyiddin, Hadi said he gave the caretaker prime minister words of encouragement and appreciation.
The Islamist party has always appeared to be staunch supporters of Muhyiddin and his Perikatan Nasional (PN) administration.
Just over a week ago, PAS spiritual adviser Datuk Hashim Jasin told Utusan Malaysia that he is disappointed over the order for all Umno MPs to withdraw support for the PN government, adding that the decision is not in line with the spirit of the ummah, as prescribed in the Muafakat Nasional charter.
Any infighting within the government will only provide a space for enemies to take advantage, he added.
“God willing, any difference in opinion, particularly between Bersatu and Umno, can be resolved, and PAS will be the middleman between the parties.
“The cooperation of these three parties is a fairly solid alliance not only in facing the general election, but also for the unity of the ummah.
