KUALA LUMPUR – PAS remains adamant that it will work together with both Bersatu and Umno ahead of the next general election, despite a serious falling out between the latter two.
The Islamist party is confident its cooperation with Umno via Muafakat Nasional can be salvaged in the name of the people, reported Utusan Malaysia.
PAS spiritual adviser Datuk Hashim Jasin was quoted as saying that this is despite Umno pulling the plug on the Perikatan Nasional government, in which PAS is currently involved.
“PAS has not given up hope in saving this unification of the ummah. The chance for MN to be saved is still there.
“We want to save MN and, at the same time, not cripple PN. We want to be together with both MN and PN to strengthen the ummah unity; this has always been our stand.”
His remark comes on the heels of Umno’s official withdrawal from the PN government on Tuesday, and its party members’ string of government position resignations.
With his position as prime minister under serious question, Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin has vowed to put his legitimacy to the test when Parliament sits next month.
Hashim said he is disappointed over the order for all Umno MPs to withdraw support for the PN government, adding that the decision is not in line with the spirit of the ummah, as prescribed in the MN charter.
Any infighting within the government will only provide a space for enemies to take advantage, he added.
“God willing, any difference in opinion, particularly between Bersatu and Umno, can be resolved, and PAS will be the middleman between the parties.
“The cooperation of these three parties is a fairly solid alliance not only in facing the general election, but also for the unity of the ummah.” – The Vibes, August 7, 2021
