KUALA LUMPUR – The tussle to become the new prime minister is a battle of numbers with another slim majority, said former communications minister Datuk Seri Salleh Said Keruak.
He said the hope now is for a new “governance”, not a “political” solution.
“The new PM can consider having a small, expert and bipartisan cabinet to build stability,” he said on Facebook.
“It seems that we are going through another process of voting for a new PM based on party choices. Again, this means it becomes a battle of numbers with probably another slim majority.
“Whatever it is, we hope for a new ‘governance’, and not a ‘political’ solution during this challenging time. Let us wait for the decision by the Yang di-Pertuan Agong.”
Yesterday, he said the reality is that there is no political party that can form the government on its own.
“There is a need for a new alignment and compromise. But, the focus should be on national recovery. The parties need to remember this and trust the Agong to pick a prime minister who will shoulder this responsibility.”
By 4pm today, all MPs are required to submit statutory declarations to Istana Negara stating their prime minister of choice.
