Dewan speaker’s office denies issuing infographics on PM race

KUALA LUMPUR – The Dewan Rakyat speaker’s office has denied issuing two infographics showing the number of MPs supporting their fellow lawmakers in the race to become prime minister.

The clarification was issued via Parliament’s Facebook page last night after the two infographics went viral on social media.

The infographics purport to show the number of MPs supporting former deputy prime minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob, who is also Bera MP, as well as PKR president Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim (Port Dickson).

Dewan Rakyat Speaker Datuk Azhar Azizan Harun, in a notice dated August 17, had asked the country’s 220 living lawmakers to submit statutory declarations on their prime minister of choice to Istana Negara by 4pm yesterday.

This follows the resignation of Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin from the top job on Monday. – Bernama, August 19, 2021
