KUALA LUMPUR – DAP has congratulated Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob for being appointed prime minister by the king, but stressed that his main duty is to unite Malaysians and to improve on the “failure” of the Perikatan Nasional (PN) administration.
In a statement issued by DAP secretary-general Lim Guan Eng, he added that the new prime minister “must also assist Malaysians to help them save their jobs and businesses as well as withdraw our economy from crisis”.
“Ismail Sabri’s main duty is to unite all Malaysians to fix the mistakes and failures in combating the Covid-19 pandemic which saw a record-breaking 23,654 infections today and more than 13,000 deaths.”
DAP also reminded Ismail Sabri that he is a prime minister to all Malaysians, and must serve and protect the nation’s interest regardless of race and religion.
Earlier today, the Istana Negara announced the appointment of Ismail Sabri as Malaysia’s ninth prime minister after a Conference of Rulers meeting.
This comes after all Dewan Rakyat MPs submitted statutory declarations stating which parliamentarian they supported for the executive’s top post on Wednesday.
Yesterday, 114 MPs from parties including PAS, Umno, Bersatu, MCA, MIC, and GPS arrived for an audience with the king to confirm their support for Ismail Sabri.
Ismail Sabri will be sworn in as prime minister at the royal palace at 2.30pm tomorrow. – The Vibes, August 20, 2021
