KUALA LUMPUR – As per the Covid-19 Immunisation Task Force’s (CITF) instructions, private hospitals in the Klang Valley will no longer serve as vaccination centres (PPVs) starting this month.
Association of Private Hospitals Malaysia president Datuk Dr Kuljit Singh said this applies to PPVs operating out of private hospitals, adding that CITF has also stopped these facilities’ participation in mega PPV operations.
“We at private hospitals will abide by all of the government’s policies and directions in the vaccination process and in managing this epidemic,” he told The Malaysian Insight.
“(We) will not question or dispute the arrangements made by government stakeholders.”
He said selected private hospitals will switch to offering Covid-19 jabs upon paying recipients’ request, and will prepare to possibly administer booster shots in the future.
“Our plea is to have a wider range of vaccine types made available to paying patients, which will further strengthen herd immunity.”
On August 18, Health Director-General Tan Sri Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said the government will proceed with CITF’s proposal to shutter or relocate PPVs in the Klang Valley, as per a document sighted by The Vibes, starting today.
“We will do the needful and perhaps engage with more GPs (general practitioners) to assist in vaccinations. Once we have achieved the required coverage, we will move on and focus on other states.”
Asked to confirm the veracity of the document, Dr Noor Hisham said: “We follow the schedule and strategy as planned.”
The closures and relocations affect the majority of the 71 PPVs in 10 districts in the Klang Valley.
At present, Klang has eight PPVs, Gombak (5), Kuala Selangor (3), Kuala Langat (2), Petaling (15), Sabak Bernam (2), Sepang (4), Hulu Langat (12), Hulu Selangor (12) and Kuala Lumpur (8). – The Vibes, August 23, 2021
