THE haze situation in the Klang Valley has recovered following heavy rains from morning to evening yesterday.

Director-General of the Malaysian Meteorological Department (MetMalaysia), Dr Mohd Hisham Mohd Ani, told BuletinTV3 that the haze situation in Sarawak has not changed much.

"The weather across the country is still expected to be dry and with little rain until the end of the Southwest Monsoon season, which is at the end of September.

"During that period, the potential for haze weather is very high," he said.

He advised the public to reduce outdoor activities, wear face masks and not engage in open burning.

Meanwhile, nine locations in Sarawak recorded unhealthy air pollution index (API) readings as of 2 pm today.

A check through the Air Pollution Index Management System (APIMS) website, Department of Environment (DOE) found that the districts of Kuching; Samarahan; Serian; Bintulu; Sarikei; Sri Aman; Mukah; Samalaju and Sibu recorded unhealthy API readings.

Kuching and Samarahan recorded the highest API readings of 163, followed by Serian (161), Bintulu (157), Sarikei (155), Sibu (152), Sri Aman (152), Mukah (151) and Samalaju (124).

In addition, seven hotspots were detected in the country, involving five in Sarawak and two in Sabah, following the deterioration of air quality in several areas in Sarawak, which recorded unhealthy APIs. – August 15, 2026
