HAZE conditions, which had shown signs of improvement over the past two days, deteriorated again as 31 areas nationwide recorded Air Pollutant Index (API) readings at unhealthy levels as of 12:30 pm.
Based on data from the Malaysian Air Pollutant Index Management System (APIMS), Serian, Sarawak recorded the highest API reading at 175, followed by Pasir Gudang, Johor (172), Larkin, Johor (172), Nilai, Negeri Sembilan (169), Johan Setia, Selangor (169), and Cheras, Kuala Lumpur (165).
Additionally, 30 areas recorded API readings at moderate levels, while six locations were at good levels.
These developments indicate that air quality—which had previously improved—has deteriorated once more, particularly in Sarawak, Johor, Selangor, Negeri Sembilan, and several other states that have begun recording readings exceeding the unhealthy threshold.
The situation differed from last Sunday, when only six areas recorded unhealthy Air Pollutant Index (API) readings, before the number dropped to just one area on Monday.
On Sunday, four areas in Johor—Kota Tinggi (165), Pasir Gudang (163), Pengerang (162), and Larkin (156)—recorded unhealthy API readings, while Serian and Sri Aman in Sarawak recorded readings of 152 and 128, respectively.
However, conditions improved on Monday; only Serian remained in the unhealthy range with a reading of 154 as of 1:00 pm, while 59 areas were at a moderate level and eight others were at a good level.
According to APIMS classification, API readings between 101 and 200 are categorised as unhealthy, while readings between 201 and 300 fall into the very unhealthy range. – September 29, 2026
