A POLICE officer narrowly escaped serious injury when a man allegedly pulled out a knife and tried to stab him in the abdomen while he was opening the gate of the Batu 9 Police Station in Cheras early Saturday.
The incident occurred at about 12.10am when the officer, who was on duty, was approached by a man riding a motorcycle who wanted to enter the station compound.
The officer opened the gate and approached the man to ask about the purpose of his visit.
However, the man did not respond to the officer’s questions before dismounting from his motorcycle and opening a storage box at the rear of the motorcycle.
The suspect then allegedly pulled out a 20cm knife and tried to stab the officer in the right side of his abdomen.
The officer escaped serious injury when the knife struck his belt instead.
The officer then struggled with the suspect before two other policemen at the station came to his assistance and helped restrain him.
During the struggle, one of the officers assisting in the arrest suffered cuts to both palms.
An initial check found that the 54-year-old suspect had no previous criminal record or outstanding cases.
Police also seized the 20cm knife for further investigation.
The suspect was detained for investigation under Section 28A of the Criminal Procedure Code.
Police are investigating the motive for the man’s visit to the station and why he was carrying the weapon. - September 28, 2026
