KUALA LUMPUR – The Pakatan Harapan (PH) presidential council has reiterated its stance to strengthen its coalition under the leadership of Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim.
Expressing gratitude to the Yang di-Pertuan Agong over Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob’s appointment as prime minister, PH also thanked 105 MPs over their support for Anwar as their candidate last week.
“Preparations in expectation of the 15th general election will be enhanced including discussions on the distribution of seats, a manifesto, a leadership line-up, candidates and the strategy to win the people’s mandate,” the statement said.
The presidential council also maintained its open stance to negotiate and cooperate under the “big tent” concept based on its reformation agenda and the wider national interest.
They added that PH will continue its duties as the parliamentary opposition in providing criticism, advice and views, which is in line with the Agong’s decree to ensure checks and balances against the executive.
The presidential council, which had a meeting today, also discussed political issues and current events in the country.
“Covid-19 remains worrying with the amount of new infections, and the number of daily fatalities, despite the vaccinations which must be ramped up.
“PH is also worried about the current economy, including unemployment, reducing income as well as the sectors affected by the pandemic.”
PH, along with other opposition parties, submitted 105 statutory declarations from its parliamentarians to declare support for Anwar as prime minister last Wednesday.
However, Barisan Nasional and Perikatan Nasional came up with 114 MPs pledging support for Ismail Sabri, securing his position as prime minister. – The Vibes, August 23, 2021
