ALOR STAR – Kedah Menteri Besar Muhammad Sanusi Md Nor is urging for more federal funds for padi farmers affected by the recent devastating floods.

He said Prime Minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob should consider dispensing more financial aid as affected padi fields are filled with muddy water as a result of the deluge.

“This is important because Yan is the highest padi producing area under the state’s Muda Agricultural Development Authority (Mada).”

On Monday, the prime minister had announced RM5,000 aid for families who lost their family members in the disaster and RM500 for families affected by the floods.

Sanusi also thanked Ismail Sabri for visiting the disaster areas in Yan and Kuala Muda, as well as providing a RM75 million allocation to rebuild damaged infrastructure.

“The Kedah government thanks the PM for making his first official visit to assess the damage in the disaster areas,” he said in a statement yesterday.

The prime minister had on Monday announced the RM75 million fund for public infrastructure and another RM3 million to rebuild damaged homes that will be overseen by the Rural Development Ministry. – The Vibes, August 25, 2021
