KUALA LUMPUR – Opposition chief Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has voiced happiness over Sabah’s United Progressive Kinabalu Organisation’s (Upko) entry into Pakatan Harapan.
In a Facebook post tonight, the PKR president said this will strengthen the coalition and allow members to better listen to the people on the ground.
“It is delightful news, and means that while PH is building its strength, we can listen (and respond) to the pulse of our multiracial people, including the Bumiputeras in Sabah and Sarawak, in this very challenging era.
“The great health and economic challenges we are facing now require the strength of everyone (to overcome).
“I appreciate this unity, and may we plan a strong strategy together, to prepare our nation and people for the post-Covid-19 phase.”
PH chief secretary Datuk Seri Saifuddin Nasution Ismail this afternoon issued a press statement on the presidential council approving Upko’s application to join.
Sabah PH Youth chief Phoong Jin Zhe, too, welcomed Upko into the federal opposition fold, calling for the unity shown by Marvel Cinematic Universe’s The Avengers to be emulated.
Together, he said, the opposition’s “Avengers” will be able to “overcome the darkness” as one team.
Prior to Saifuddin’s announcement, Upko Youth chief Felix Joseph Saang made known the wing’s hope that the party will cooperate with PH. – The Vibes, August 26, 2021
