KUALA LUMPUR – In the spirit of the Merdeka, former prime minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin has urged all quarters to set aside their differences for the sake of the nation.
In a statement in conjunction with National Day, the Bersatu president said his party is determined to empower the political practice of providing its service to the rakyat at all levels of the society.
He said priority will be given to assist those who are affected by the Covid-19 pandemic, which has been going on for almost two years.
“As such, we call on all parties to set aside any existing differences and to collectively renew our national commitment to continue focusing on the agenda of developing the country and defending the people.”
Muhyiddin said continuous effort is needed to strengthen national unity in a diverse society like Malaysia, which will subsequently drive the country’s economic, education and social development.
On the concept of Keluarga Malaysia introduced by Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob during his inaugural speech as prime minister last week, Muhyiddin said Bersatu welcomes the approach taken by his successor.
He said the concept is very much appropriate to preserve harmony among the various races, religions and cultures of Malaysia.
“As such, Bersatu is confident that the new cabinet is capable of administering the country in line with the people’s aspirations, who want the planned national recovery process to be carried out inclusively and without hiccups.”
Muhyiddin, who took over as the country’s eighth prime minister on the back of the infamous Sheraton Move in February last year, resigned from his post on August 16 after losing the backing of the Dewan Rakyat.
Ismail Sabri has since been appointed to take over as the head of government, while his cabinet was sworn-in before the Yang di-Pertuan Agong yesterday. – The Vibes, August 31, 2021
