GEORGE TOWN – Some 120 chairs and a few tents will be sent to Penang Hospital, which is seeing long lines of Covid-19 patients outside its emergency department.

It is learnt that the hospital is running low on beds for critical patients.

State Welfare, Caring Society and Environment Committee chairman Phee Boon Poh said he has arranged for the chairs and tents to be set up at the hospital today for patients’ comfort.

He suggested that cardboard beds be used to accommodate new admissions.

“This is not happening only at Penang Hospital, but other hospitals as well.

“Medical frontliners are exhausted. They cannot go on leave, and many have to do double shifts.”

Penang saw another 1,558 Covid-19 cases today, a slight decline from yesterday’s 1,725.

The state logged 38 deaths yesterday, and 39 the day before. – The Vibes, September 4, 2021
