KUALA LUMPUR – Rubbishing claims that DAP is opposed to the country’s constitutional monarchy system and is out to destroy the royal institution, Anthony Loke said the party fully supports the king’s decision not to declare a state of emergency.
The DAP organising secretary, in a Facebook post tonight, said such allegations amount to slander by those seeking to tarnish the party’s image.
“In the last 72 hours, Malaysians have witnessed for themselves how the constitutional monarchy system functions in our country.
“The Yang di-Pertuan Agong has used his wisdom to limit the decisions and actions of the executive,” he said, referring to Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin’s call for emergency rule.
“The Agong’s decision not to make such a declaration is welcomed by the rakyat. DAP supports this decision fully.”
He said DAP’s struggle and policies clearly indicate support for parliamentary democracy and constitutional monarchy, adding this is enshrined in an important party document – the 2012 Shah Alam Declaration.
The Seremban MP said the declaration states that DAP will defend parliamentary democracy and constitutional monarchy, with the Agong as the head of the country, and is committed to upholding the federal constitution as the supreme law of the land.
DAP will also protect the special position of Bumiputeras, as well as the rights of other races.
“We will ensure Islam’s position as the religion of the Federation, and the right to practise other religions peacefully.
“Finally, we will uphold Bahasa Melayu as the national language, as enshrined in Article 152 of the constitution, as well as encourage the use and learning of other mother tongues.
“DAP will continue to fight on the path of parliamentary democracy and constitutional monarchy. Let us all defend this democratic system and reject any attempt to gain power through a declaration of emergency.” – The Vibes, October 26, 2020
