KOTA KINABALU – Sabah’s hospital bed occupancy rate for Covid-19 patients went up to 94.95%, as the state registered 2,136 new cases and 33 deaths today.
State Covid-19 spokesman Datuk Seri Masidi Manjun said in a statement that 1,805 patients are occupying 1,901 beds in Sabah’s Covid-19 hospitals as of today, and 200 people require critical care (129 in intensive care units and 71 in open wards), while 83 others are on ventilator support.
The state is currently treating 4,831 active patients, with 61.6% (2,976) in low-risk quarantine and treatment centres.
Out of the total new cases, 191 are children under the age of five (25 below 1 and 166 1 to 5 years old), and 384 patients are aged 6 to 17.
Kota Kinabalu still has the highest number of new cases (357), followed by Sandakan (332), Papar (211), Tawau (157), Lahad Datu (116), Kota Marudu (108), and Tuaran (102).
Two new Covid-19 clusters have been recorded today – the Pagar Sebrang cluster in Keningau and Koyah cluster in Kinabatangan.
The Pagar Sebrang cluster involves a detention centre in Keningau, which began from a 40-year-old prison officer in a moral guidance detention centre who tested positive for the virus on August 25.
The index case infected 28 others (including five today), including his family members, colleagues, and detainees under his care.
The Koyah cluster started from a palm oil estate in Kinabatangan, where a 43-year-old general worker tested positive for the virus on August 20. He infected 25 others, including 19 recorded today among his close contacts. – The Vibes, September 5, 2021
