KOTA KINABALU – The daily Covid-19 death toll has been high of late due to a backlog.
Health Minister Khairy Jamaluddin said the number of new deaths reported each day does not include those that occur over the last 24 hours.
“One thing I want to say today, but I will reveal more on later, is that the numbers we are seeing now are not the ones recorded within the last 24 hours.
“There’s a long list, and there’s a huge number in the ministry’s backlog.
“I have the actual deaths by date. We are having this backlog because we need to verify that the cause of death is Covid-19,” he told the press at Menara Kinabalu here today.
He added that he will share the relevant data on Wednesday.
Khairy is on a working visit to Sabah, which is facing a serious virus situation as it continues to log a low vaccination rate.
He said Covid-19 fatalities will fall, as has happened in the Klang Valley, in two to three weeks.
On brought-in-dead cases, he said many of these victims were not registered as patients at health facilities.
“To solve this problem, we have to intensify the role of community leaders and neighbours.
“People can check in on their (sick) neighbours to see how they’re doing when (the latter) develop symptoms or their sickness gets worse.” – The Vibes, September 6, 2021
